Rustic Copper Bear Christmas Ornament, Maine Woods Animal Holiday Decoration
While we're moving to our new online home, please find this and more Handmade Christmas Ornaments and Holiday Decor at ProsperoLane.com. Thank you!
A rustic copper ornament for your Christmas tree, our woodland bear decoration will add an aura of the Maine Woods to your holiday decor.
Inspired by the wildlife - birds and animals we see from our rural Maine studio - we designed this old fashioned metalwork ornament of upcycled industrial copper. Each bear is cut and hand forged, hammer textured for a primitive look, and flame washed to establish a multicolor palette and warm, rich antiqued patina.
Measuring approximately 2 inches high, this style bear is about 3 3/4 inches wide from the nose to rear heel. Our attached copper hanger adds about 1 1/4 inch to 1 1/2" to the overall height of the ornament. Other sizes are also available by special request; please contact us in advance to set up a custom order.
Happy Holiday thoughts and ideas -
The Bear serves as mascot for several American schools, including the Baylor University in Texas and our own University of Maine.
California is called The Bear Republic.
"Ursa Major" ( Great Bear) and "Ursa Minor" ( Lesser Bear) are the names of two stellar constellations, both deriving from ancient Greek legends and myths. The brightest group of stars in "Ursa Major" are known as "The Big Dipper."
Entertaining as the imaginary image may be, we can't vouch for the tall tale that Davy Crockett, United States Senator and hero / martyr of the Alamo, could "stare down a bear" and killed his first at the ripe old age of 3 years.
